Delicious & Gluten Free in Iceland

I think Iceland is one of the best places I have traveled to..

Going to the Blue Lagoon (a geothermal spa) had been a dream of mine for a long time and it was amazing to finally realize it. As soon as I got off the plane I headed straight there. I spent three hours in there just floating about and drinking prosecco (there is a limit on how much alcohol they serve you so you don't drown!). Whilst I was in there the weather kept changing, it went from sunny to snowing to windy to rain, all in the three hours.

I then headed to Reykjavik and found my apartment. Iceland was my first trip completely solo so I thought getting an apartment instead of a hotel would work better for me so I could cook meals for myself and wouldn't have to sit in restaurants alone.

Three months before I had traveled to a yoga retreat on my own but I had met people there, which was a good first step in solo travel but Iceland was my first proper jump into the unknown. Thankfully the Icelandic people were so kind and friendly, and always offered to help me out and gave me tips on where to go.

Food-wise, I didn't know what to expect and I wasn't keen on the idea of having to search for gluten free places to sit and eat on my own, so I packed some Tilda microwave rice sachets which have now become my solo travel food essentials. You can eat it hot or cold, it goes with anything and is flat and easy to pack. You can get lots of different flavours too, so you just need to add some fresh meat, fish or veg from a supermarket and you have a simple gluten free meal.

However, if you an to visit Iceland to eat out, I recently saw a great informative post by The GFG about eating gluten free in Iceland, click here to read.

A great thing to do in Iceland is a tour of the Golden Circle. It was a fab way to see more of the country including Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall and Geysir Hot Spring. Thingvellir National Park is where some of Game of Thrones is filmed so I was quite excited to see it (below).

It was amazing to explore these places with the help of the wonderful guides.. but I don't think I have ever been so cold in my entire life than when we stopped at Gulfoss (below)!

Iceland is such a magical place, I definitely want to go back and see more one day.
