Lisbon was my 5th solo trip...
It did get off to a rocky start as the apartment I was supposed to be staying in had been double booked and the owner had swanned off to Madrid! Thankfully Expedia sorted it all out and I ended up staying in a stunning, 4 star boutique hotel instead for no extra cost.
It taught me a valuable lesson of always taking a travel charger with me when travelling. I had to get my Mum in the UK to phone Expedia in the US to sort it out, all while my phone battery was slowly dying and I had nowhere to plug my phone in..
After all that drama was sorted, I got on with my trip. I had the best time exploring Lisbon. It is such a great place to walk around and so much to see. I walked for miles and miles. It was only early April but it was so warm and lovely.
My favourite thing I did was having a glass of wine at Castelo de S. Jorge, the views across the city are absolutely stunning.
I also wanted to visit the Santa Justa Elevator but the queues were huge so after a bit of research, I found a route to a bridge that had the same views - and no queue (below!)
I think my visit to Zarzuela was the first time I actually went and sat in a restaurant and had dinner on my own. It was a great experience, I took a book and sat by the window people watching. They had a certified gluten free menu and so many options! I had a very cheesy gluten free pizza and sweet potato fries. They also sold loads of gluten free pastries that you could take away for breakfast.
I would definitely recommend visiting Lisbon and it is a brilliant place for a solo trip. There is so much to see, you can't possibly get bored.
