Delicious & Gluten Free in Helsinki, Finland

I went to Finland a couple of years ago over the New Year...

It was my 4th solo trip and I loved it. It was freezing cold and dark most of the time but beautiful, friendly and wonderful to walk around.

The highlight of the trip was visiting the Allas Sea Pool. They have a cold water sea pool and an outdoor heated pool - I wasn't brave enough for the cold one!

It was so much fun running between the pool and the saunas in the snow. Once I was thoroughly refreshed, I had a lovely glass of wine in the cafe there and watched the world go by.

I stayed in a gorgeous apartment in central Helsinki so it was easy to walk everywhere and I could cook up my own food. I had brought my usual gluten free staples with me (bread, microwave rice sachets and cereal) so all I needed to buy was fresh veg and some fish.

On New Years Eve I found some gluten free Brewdog Vagabond (one of my favourite beers) which saved me because by the time I went to buy some wine, all the state alcohol stores had closed (it was about 5pm!) and the supermarkets are only allowed to sell beer and cider. Thankfully they had gluten free beer or that might have been a very un-festive NYE!

The next day I got up early and spent New Years Day exploring the city in the beautiful sunshine.
